The Unequally Yoked Debate Continues

A while back, I posted "Dating Christian Men" as my Welcome to Earth moment of the day. My thoughts in that post and on the topic of being equally yoked have continued to stay on my mind and in my prayers. In reading and searching the Internet, I encountered a blog post on the topic and I exchanged in some debate with the writer. Several valid points were made in both the post and in reply comments so I wanted to include a link to that blog, God and Stuff, for your viewing.

I don't regularly follow that blog so I am not aware of all of the material on it. I can't necessarily endorse or recommend it yet but it does look like several topics are discussed there that might be of interest to you.

In the movie Independence Day, Will Smith's character approaches the body of a supposedly dead alien in the middle of the desert. The alien springs to life and lurches toward Smith who responds by throwing a solid punch and kick-slam to the chest rendering it dead for good. "Welcome to earth!" says Smith.

That is what I say to you Bible-reading, God-following, single Christian woman, "Welcome to earth!" You may feel like an alien with your morals and standards referred to by others as prudish naiveté. Sometimes living as a Christian single girl is like getting a solid punch and kick-slam to the chest from all of the unexpected situations and emotional and spiritual struggles that come our way. But I welcome you to live amongst all of the other earthlings in the world, but not of the world.

So that you are aware of what you are getting yourself into as you read this blog, here are the things you need to know:

1. Although my writings are from the Christian perspective and my basic beliefs include faith in abstinence before marriage, confidence in the truth and reliability of the entire Bible, and hope placed in an ever-changing and growing relationship with God, I do not intend this to be a study or a sermon.

2. I am not preaching or teaching, just offering a perspective as support. If, as you are reading, you ever say "I feel that way sometimes" then this is the place for you.

3. I am not coming from an assumption that Christian women are better or at all perfect in comparison to other women or that those who have varying differences in their life circumstances or past experience are lesser in comparison to anyone else. I just want to fill a hole in offering support to girls of a modern social perspective who are still believers and followers of the Bible.

4. I want to add your comments to make a dialogue out of this but this is NOT the venue to say anything mean, insulting, or negative. The rule to live by here: if you don't have anything nice to say or anything truly meaningful to share, don't bother to comment on this blog.
